Kensington Swan (now Dentons Kensington Swan) submission to the New Zealand Parliament.
Kensington Swan (now Dentons Kensington Swan) has made a submission to the New Zealand Parliament on the Privacy Bill.
This Bill repeals and replaces the Privacy Act 1993, as recommended by the Law Commission's 2011 review of the Act. Its key purpose is to promote people's confidence that their personal information is secure and will be treated properly.
Kensington Swan (now Dentons Kensington Swan) is generally supportive of the changes proposed by the Bill. In our view, the time is right to for New Zealand to update and modernise its privacy laws, in particular to take into account global trends in data protection and privacy.
The firm’s submission was drafted by the head of our Government and Regulatory team, partner Hayden Wilson, and technology and privacy law senior associate Campbell Featherstone, with contributions from the head of our Technology and Privacy team, partner Hayley Miller, and litigation solicitor Bethany Mathers.
This submission was made on May 24, 2018. It is available for you to read here.
