Dentons Kensington Swan is delighted to announce we have selected Save The Kiwi as our flagship cause. Save the Kiwi is Aotearoa’s national charity dedicated to protecting kiwi.
Private Wealth Partner and Save the Kiwi board member, Henry Brandts-Giesen says, “We have had the great pleasure of supporting Save the Kiwi through our pro-bono work for a number of years now. I’m very proud of our Pro-Bono Group leading the work we do to support communities and organisations in need. I’m particularly delighted that they selected Save the Kiwi as our flagship cause.”
At Dentons Kensington Swan, we contribute to our community by providing pro bono legal advice where it is needed the most. Our pro bono programme supports community initiatives and individuals under five categories: Cultural, Disadvantaged, Environmental, New Zealand Innovation, and Social & Community.
Save the Kiwi works alongside iwi, conservation groups, communities, organisations, and the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai to reverse the decline of the national kiwi population and create more kiwi-safe habitat all over Aotearoa. They work to bring increased awareness to the kiwi’s plight, how important this taonga is to our national identity, and what people can do to help. They also fund kiwi conservation groups to do more of their important mahi.
Save the Kiwi Executive Director, Michelle Impey, says the sheer volume of pro-bono work that Dentons Kensington Swan has provided since they joined the sponsorship over the years is invaluable.
“Dentons Kensington Swan has been part of the Save the Kiwi whānau since 2014 when former partner Tim MacAvoy joined The Kiwi Trust as a trustee,” Ms Impey says. “Over the years, Dentons has assisted us with an incredible amount of work including sponsorship, supplier, and contractor agreements, navigating our name change to Save the Kiwi, supporting our endowment fund, connecting us with our most recent ambassador Kane Williamson, and enthusiastically joining us for kiwi releases.
“We are honoured that Dentons has identified kiwi conservation as such a worthy cause to support.”
Where the work is being done, kiwi are returning to Aotearoa. However, the national kiwi population is still declining by 2% every year, and many New Zealanders have no idea that our adopted national icon is in danger of disappearing from the wild altogether.
At Dentons Kensington Swan, we believe we all have a shared responsibility for the well-being of our natural environment. We like to assist and participate in projects where we can identify an opportunity to make a difference and support a worthwhile cause.
Save the Kiwi Week 2022 is running October 10-16. Save the Kiwi are calling on organisations and individuals to raise awareness and the necessary funds they need to support kiwi conservation efforts around Aotearoa. Kiwi conservation groups all over Aotearoa need funds to protect kiwi in their local regions. Text KIWI to 3663 to instantly donate $3 to kiwi conservation or donate online here.
